5 Stevenage Youth players to look out for
In the clubs 41 year history Stevenage have become synonymous with producing young players through their academy who have gone on to play at very high levels. The likes of George Boyd have come to the academy, broke into the first team and has gone onto play in the premier league. This season has seen lots of the clubs young players being given a chance yet again and proved they can play at this level and even higher.
1.Ben Wilmot
Young central defender Ben Wilmot broke into the first team in late 2017 and has gone onto become a regular in the Boro lineup. The 18-Year-Old has caught the attention of over 36 different clubs including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham for very good reason. The central defender is a very calm and composed player who is very good with the ball at his feet as he can pick out players well with both long and short passes. Not only that but Wilmot is a very good tackler and would be a fantastic long term signing for any Premier League club as he is very talented.
2.Ben Kennedy
Ben Kennedy has been a player who has been in the first team for such a long time but is still so young. The 21-Year-Old has already player over 100 games for Stevenage, scoring 22 in that time. The tricky winger is fantastic with the ball at his feet and can take the ball past players with ease. This season has been a rollercoaster for the Northern Irishman as he started the season relatively well before injury would sideline him for 8 games and when he came back he started well getting 2 assists in 2 games before he would run into a poor run of form but luckily he has picked it up from recent weeks to maintain his status as one of the clubs most important players.
3.Mark Mckee
The 19-Year-Old has become a midfield magician for the Hertfordshire club after his position change at the start of the season. When he first broke into the first team last season he started out playing upfront where he didnt look great however, after he decided to move to central midfield he has become a revelation for Stevenage and has played 22 games this season, scoring 1 and assisting 1. Like Ben Wilmot, Mark Mckee was a player that was highly sought after by Premier League and Bundesliga clubs for his performances this season and for good reason. The midfielder is very calm on the ball and is very direct which is something Stevenage lacked in that position in the past few seasons.
4.Andronicos Georgiou
With Stevenage producing so many young players it is only right that the youth side does well in the FA youth cup and that is exactly what happened with the help of 18-Year-Old Andronicos Georgiou. The Cypriot scored 7 goals in 4 games for Stevenage, leading them to the fourth round before being knocked out by Middlesbrough. Georgiou hasn’t had much game time in the first team, playing just 4 games however, he has shown positive signs in that time.
5.Dale Gorman
Yet another Northern Irish player produced by Stevenage, Dale Gorman has become a player who has shown positive signs. The 21-Year-Old became a favourite of current manager, Darren Sarll, because of him being his coach while he was in the youth team. Since making his debut in 2015, Dale Gorman has gone onto make 65 appearances for the Boro, scoring just 3 times including a great strike against local rivals Barnet. Dale Gorman is a player who never fails to give 100% and is not afraid to put in a tackle. The young central midfielder likes to make extravagant passes which work on most occasions.
