Paul Onuachu- Nigeria's new NO.9.

12th September, 2017 • By Mitchell Proctor.

Target Men are typically stereotyped as lanky players who just stand up front all game, hold the ball up and cant score. However, FC Midtjylland forward, Paul Onuachu is one that has broke the mould. The Nigerian has been making movements in Denmark's top flight with his ability to find the back of the net and is even on the cards as an option for the next Super Eagles squad for very good reason. The 23-Year-Old has been a prolific figure over the last 3 seasons, scoring 40 goals and getting 9 assists in 56 starts since 2015 but, What is even more impressive is his contribution to goals and assists over his entire career. Onauchu has been involved in 60 goals in just 64 starts throughout his entire career, scoring 48 goals and assisting 12 times, which is a return most target men would only dream of. The Nigerian has started the season just as he finished the last, by scoring goals, bagging himself 8 goals and 2 assists in just 10 games which included a tremendous hat trick in the Europa League qualifiers against Derry City in a 4-1 victory, he also assisted the other goal to make it an even sweeter evening for himself and his side. Standing at 6'7, Paul Onuachu is a massive presence up top for FC Midtjylland and the fact he knows how to score goals very well makes him a cut above the rest. Defenders should always be worried when going in an Aerial battle with the 23-Year-Old has the majority of the time he is coming out the victor. What makes Paul Onuachu even better is that he is strong and has good footwork to allow him to hold the ball up and dribble with the ball to help his side win games. Overall the target man is a very underrated forward who would be a great option for many top flight sides. Unfortunately Paul Onauchu is currently out of action with Appendectomy and wont be back playing until early in September. This injury kept him out of the recent Super Eagles squad for their World Cup qualifiers. When he is back there is no doubt that the Nigerian target man will be back to his usual prolific form for FC Midtjylland in Denmarks top flight and there is no doubt a call up to the national team will most definitely follow.
